There is indeed something for everyone at this year’s Mercer Green Fest. Eco-vendors and non-profits will offer information and incentives to help you go green; area schools will show off their projects; a 21 car electric vehicle display will help inform your next vehicle purchase and family entertainment from Miss Amy, Solar Man and Eyes of the Wild will engage the kids. The year’s fest also features a highlight on the Arts. It’s no secret that The Arts brings people together and generates excitement, so we invite you to come to the Fest to view the works of local area artists while .
Local Art Talent Area
Local artists from the area will come together to create a place at the Fest for people to experience and purchase local art! This area will showcase art from independent artists and demonstrators. Don’t miss your chance to take home a work of art from some of the amazingly talented artists living and working right here in Mercer County.
Alia Bensliman, Artworks Representative
Alia is from Tunisia where she studied art. She loves working in mixed media. Alia’s jewelry pieces involved recycling things like magazine paper and turning them into beads; utilizing her Tunisian flair and influences in the design for one of a kind art. She also integrates recycled materials into her her deeply-rooted North African masterpieces. Alia will be demonstrating making jewelry beads from recycled paper.
Margaret does a variety of art, and most of it involves using recycled materials: decoupaged wood boxes; altered books, paintings on recycled slates from roof tiles, etc.
The Blue house displayed here is made from recycled fiberboard ceiling tiles or leftover cement board. This picture does not show the roof she added after taking the picture which made the piece approx. 2 ft high x 18” wide. She does lots of these in different colors and sizes.
Cathy Tsao is an artist who does paper sculptures from recycled papers. She does amazingly intricate work and it can be seen on www.etsy.com/CathyTsao
Katrina Brophy does mosaic tile art on old furniture and found objects.
Dave Jackson does welding with found objects. He uses recovered steel, glass and wood from salvage and “throwaway” resources to produce unique designer home décor pieces. He sells out of 2 stores: Perennial Home and Comisky Gallery and Garden Center in Hightstown.
Shahla Mansouri is a painter and calls her work 'eco-art'.
Hands On Art Activities
Always a popular attraction, the Festival’s Hands On activity area in our Craft Corner presented by Anne Cheslock of Ewing has even more going on this year. She will lead the kids in making butterflies from folded pages of recycled magazines, sure to suit the youngsters.
